Arlington County Public and Private Schools – Some of the Finest in the Nation
Arlington may be a small county, but it packs a mighty punch when it comes to its education.
The National Center for Education Statistics reports that there are 37 schools that make up Arlington Public Schools. Along with the public schools, the county is home to many diverse options for private education.
The information on a new school district can be overwhelming. But, here are a few insights on our local schools to while you and your family search for your perfect home.
According to Niche.com, a site that combines insights and statistics from experts, parents, students and education professionals, Arlington Public Schools currently ranks as the No. 1 school district in Virginia. The average graduation rate is higher than the national average and classroom sizes average out at a comfortable 12:1.
Greatschools.com “grades” schools based on test scores each year compared to other students in the state. Scores are out of 10 with anything above an 8 considered above average. Eleven area elementary schools are ranked above average.
Schools making a “Perfect 10” on greatschools.com’s rating scale include: Jamestown Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Nottingham Elementary, Arlington Traditional, Tuckahoe Elementary and Arlington Science Focus School.
A recent U.S. News list of Virginia’s best high schools also ranks Arlington’s own Yorktown High School number 12 in the state and puts Washington Lee High School at number 20.
