Ballston
If you’re a techie, Ballston is the place to be. Located along the Western edge of Arlington County, this neighborhood provides the perfect work-life balance. Ballston is home to an array of government agencies, contractors, high-tech agencies and one awesome annual food show (nearly 15,000 people attended the Taste of Arlington Food Festival). For students, Marymount University and the Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute are within Ballston’s confines. Shopaholics can enjoy Ballston Common Mall, which features everything from Macy’s to Wet Seal. The Washington Capitals practice facility is also located right down the street… only if you live in Ballston. Metro: Ballston-MU

Clarendon
Foodies and nightlife-lovers flock to this hip ‘hood. The diversity and cultural options of Arlington County is best showcased in this urban village. If you’re looking for some Pad Thai, stellar Mexican comida, or top-notch brews, you can definitely find it here. Thanks to the 2006 Clarendon Sector Plan, even more commercial and residential options are on the way. Already, you can find stores like Crate & Barrell, Barnes & Noble and Williams Sonoma in the neighborhood. Simply put, it’s hard to be bored in Clarendon. Metro: Clarendon

Columbia Pike
Columbia Pike stretches east-to-west from Bailey’s Crossroads to Arlington Heights. In a nutshell, it is the golden bricked road that ends at the Pentagon. It’s currently being revitalized, and is a promising investment for Arlington’s future. Home to art-deco buildings and a smorgasbord of international dining options, this 8.2 mile is a gateway to several government agencies. Lined with brick-structured sidewalks, aesthetic street lights, and a Farmer’s Market (in the summer), you’ll feel right at home along Columbia Pike. And if you like the ease of traveling by bus, this road has the most commuting options of any street in the United States.

Courthouse
Home to Verizon, Strayer University, and Washington Post/Newsweek Interactive, Courthouse is another one of Arlington’s shining technology hubs. Courthouse gets its name for hosting Arlington’s main government complex, as well as Arlington’s police headquarters and… courthouse (surprise, surprise).  Its unique blend of Mom-and-Pop shops with some of the largest corporations in the States creates a truly vibrant aroma. Just like Columbia Pike, Courthouse is slated to get even better. With a redesigned Courthouse Plaza and Marriott Residence Inn in the works, Courthouse’s future is looking bright. Metro: Courthouse

Crystal City
Meet Arlington’s primary downtown district. If you love the city vibe, but don’t want to face the stresses of living in Washington, Crystal City is your place. With beautiful vies of our nation’s capital (including the Washington Monument and Capitol building), Crystal City is a comfortable urban oasis. Here you can find countless shops, diverse eateries, the award-winning Arena Stage and 4,600 hotel rooms. And, if you are consistently in and out of the area, Reagan National Airport is right around the corner. Rosslyn
If you’re looking for a view, you may very well fall for Rosslyn. This modern neighborhood is Washington’s Southwest neighbor, located just across the Key Bridge from Georgetown. Considered by many to be “Manhattan on the Potomac,” Rosslyn’s skyline is anything but shy. Large condominium and commercial centers (such as Boeing and Raytheon) tower amid such dining and entertainment options as Cafe Asia and Domoso. Shirlington
Art fans and entertainment lovers will feel right at home in Shirlington. There is never a shortage of activites to stimulate the mind in this hip yet preserved neighborhood. Located along I-395 just north of Alexandria, Shirlington is host to several dining and shopping options (from Busboys & Poets to Johnny Rockets).  If you enjoy a good road trip, Shirlington’s proximity to major roadways make it easy to reach Washington and points south. Metro: Shirlington

Virginia Square
A hotspot for education and residential complexes, Virginia Square features corporate big-hitters and small town success stories. George Mason University and George Washington University both have their Arlington campuses in this energetic neighborhood. Virginia Square is also home to the famous “El Pollo Rico” restaurant–Anthony Bourdain recently paid a visit to this Peruvian chicken joint and loved it.
